Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) charters Bibby Maritime floating accommodations to house workers in fight against COVID-19
Bibby Maritime Ltd are delighted to announce that two floating accommodations have been chartered for immediate use by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The floating accommodations will house healthy foreign workers to help combat the spread of the virus by reducing travel and social contact in Singapore. The floating accommodations were towed to Tanjong Pagar Terminal, Singapore on the 10th and 11th of April respectively.
The tandem charters will provide a home-away-from-home to workers in Singapore.
Helen Samuels, CEO at Bibby Marine made the following comments on the charter:
“In line with the Bibby Line Group values, we have sought to do the right thing and worked together in order to provide both floating accommodations as we collectively look to counter the COVID-19 pandemic. The two floating accommodations have spent lots of time in South-East Asia over the past ten years, fulfilling requirements in several industries and sectors with work in the Shipyard/Offshore Construction industries. When we were approached by the MPA with this prompt requirement we knew we could mobilise quickly and safely to the project site, being virtually just ‘around the corner’ in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A good relationship with the MPA, highly trusted local connections and great teamwork across different time zones are the essential items that have made these charters happen. We very much look forward to working with the MPA to make sure the residents on-board have a comfortable and safe stay on our assets in a time of uncertainty.”
