Case Studies

CLIENT - PREEM PETROLEUM AB.
'The GAS OIL PROJECT'.

An environmental project for future transport fuels

LOCATION - Lysekil, Sweden

REQUIREMENT - The purpose of the 'Gas Oil Project' was to convert 2.3 million tonnes of heating oil into sulphur-free gasoline and diesel. Accommodation for some 200 plus workers involved in the project was urgently needed as the town of Lysekil had limited hotel capacity. The workers needed en-suite accommodation to comply with local union regulations, as well as full kitchen and dining facilities.

SOLUTION - Bibby Bergen Coastel

BENEFITS - The owners of the refinery, Preem Petroleum AB, evaluated options to house 150 welding technicians and 50 other tradesmen from various trades and found Bibby Bergen fulfilled their needs most closely. Quick availability, speed of delivery, 24 hour set- up and ease of removal at the end of the contract were decisive factors for Preem. The Bibby Bergen also compared very favourably in terms of cost against alternatives considered and with 182 comfortably appointed en-suite bedrooms, fully-equipped galley and dining room it provided ideal accommodation for the 6-month contract period.

CLIENT'S COMMENTS - "Our USD 450 million plant expansion for the desulphurisation and cracking of vacuum gas oil was approaching the final project phase. We needed additional short-term accommodation with a capacity for 200 personnel that was both quickly available and would have minimal impact on the environment. Bibby Bergen was becoming available in Norway and we negotiated its mobilisation and charter to meet our exact requirements."

Mr Joakim Lindén
Preemraff Project Administrator

"To us in the port of Lysekil the visit of Bibby Bergen has been entirely successful. We have had no problems with the Coastel itself, nor has the fact that we have had several hundred people living in the middle of the harbour area caused any trouble."

Olle Samuelson
Harbourmaster Lysek
